The way you carry yourself while caddying and taking pride in doing a job well, can open so many more doors down the road. I landed an internship and ultimately got hired full-time at Mortenson directly from a contact I made caddying.

Caddying is what you make of it. You need to put the work forward and really take it upon yourself to establish a good relationship with people at the club. And parent involvement is essential. That was one thing that really helped me; my parents were really supportive of me. And it paid off, not just for summer income, but also receiving the Evans Scholarship.

More than anything, I learned social skills. Having conversations with strangers got a lot easier from being a caddie. Meeting so many different people from the program and the course forced me to get to know people. Those conversations can be awkward at first, but as time went on and I got a little older that got a lot less intimidating.

Working with MMJGA (ForeUs) improved my caddying, networking and soft skills to make me a better communicator and caddie. And ultimately, it allowed me to go to school for free as an Evans Scholar.

During my first interview in my current role my now boss looked at me and said “you sure seem familiar” to which I replied “well I did caddie for you when I was 13”. He later told me that moment was when he knew he was going to hire me. That relationship as well as many others have served me well during my professional career and I can owe a great deal of that to MMJGA (ForeUs).

I learned how to deal with a lot of different types of people. There are a lot of different personalities, and caddying for them helped me get along with almost everybody. That was the most important thing that I got out of MMJGA (ForeUs).
